8 questions to ask a hiring manager when taking a job order for a Passive Candidate search.
In today's world of recruiting in order to perform a search for an open position properly you need the hard facts, the minimum requirements of the position, the "must haves". Phrases in a requisition such as; Candidate must have knowledge of...or the Candidate must be familiar with..., just do not provide enough information. Here is a list of questions that will allow you to overcome those ambiguous phrases and get you on the direct path to finding the right candidates. These questions are meant to be asked by a recruiting or HR professional when speaking to a hiring manager that is trying to fill a position.
- 1. What are the Target companies or the kinds of companies you would like candidates out of?
- a) Are you aware of any candidates that are currently interviewing with your company from the list of targets companies you have given us?
- b) Are there any candidates you do NOT want us to approach?
- 2. What department(s) could these candidates be found in?
- 3. What would their title(s) be?
- 4. What degree(s) or certification(s) might the candidate have?
- 5. If this a management position, what level manager would they be? A Third Level Manager at a large company might have a title of VP while at a smaller company they would be a Senior Manager. Titles are not as important as what Level manager they are.
6.When we identify someone from one of the target companies in the correct department with the correct title, has the right degree/certification and the number of years experience you are looking for, are there any other MINIMUM skill set requirements that need to be met?
- 7. What is the absolute minimum number of years experience that this candidate must have with each skill set?
- Definition: Absolute Minimum: If you ask for 5 years to be the minimum number of years experience with xyz skillset and we identify someone with 4 years and 11 months you will not be sent that candidate. Be very specific.
- 8. What is the maximum amount of salary you want the candidate to be currently making?
